Bank of America recently came to a settlement in a huge class action suit over overdraft fees.

B of A has agreed to a payout of $410 million to make the suit disappear. Aggressive overdraft policies are the subject of a huge class action, involving about one million people and more than two doz-en banks, including B of A. Don't worry; you'll still be able to get your installment loans from these banks.

Tons of banks sued for account charges

Customers have been really upset about the overdraft fees and account fees at major financial institutions in both Canada and the United States. This has brought on some class action lawsuits to be filed. Bank of America has one class action suit with about 1 million people in it along with other banks with similar suits for instance Chase bank, Citigroup and Wells Fargo, reports Bloomberg. A $410 million settlement was approved for Bank of America. Reuters explained that over 2 dozen banks in the United States. Europe and Canada are be-ing sued for fees like these, all of which were changed to be class action suits. The case is titled In Re: Checking Account Overdraft Litigation.

Bank of America's overdraft charge issue

Transactions at Bank of America are supposedly processed from largest to smallest instead of by date. This allows the bank to get a lot of little overdrafts instead of one large one causing more overdraft fees to be charged. Banks will allow a transaction to go through with overdraft fees but add a charge to the account for the customer just like short term credit. Normal fees are between $25 and $35. Many customer advocates consider overdraft protections and fees to be abusive to less fortunate customers. Customers have to choose to be in an overdraft program if they want to be in one since banks can't do it automatically.

Mobile use at Bank of America with a pilot program

Bank of America is unveiling a pilot program involving mobile banking, according to the Los Ange-les Times. The consumer is sent a text message if a transaction is dropped asking if the customer wants to use the bank's overdraft protection on that transaction. The customer can then keep away from the $35 overdraft charge if they are able to deposit the funds before 8 p.m. that even-ing. The choice would only apply to that transaction. The New York Times reports that when the CFPB begins operations, overdraft fees will become essential to review. There has been a fight over the director and powers of the bureau in Congress which may stop the CFPB from start-ing in the near future.
