Doll Shopping 101: Dad's Resource
by Jackie Marie
Your little girl wants a doll for Christmas and you don't have the first idea on where to begin the search. Or worse, maybe she told you what she wants and you choked on the price tag. maybe you need some alternatives. Relax, you've stumbled on to the right article.
I'm a dad of two daughters. In fact, only daughters and no sons. Fortunately, my wife does all the shopping for us so this was never a problem I had. Why then, can I help you? It's because I have recently created a website for dolls. I didn't know anything about dolls when I created the site. I just discovered that this was a good market for internet marketing and I jumped right in. But, because I have to do so much research in order to write articles for the site, I am learning a ton every day about the topic of dolls and doll accessories. I thought I just might spread some of my unique knowledge your way.
The first thing to understand are the different categories of dolls. If we were being very specific, there would be too many to sort through for your purposes. So, I'll limit them to the few that a young girl would actually want at her age. These doll categories would be baby play dolls, young girl play dolls and fashion dolls.
The first category of dolls, baby dolls, are the classic, made from plastic or vinyl dolls. You know, the ones that small girls cart around in their baby buggies and feed feed with a spoon and bottle. These dolls are still popular with the little ones only. But, there is a twist, although some of them have the classic look, there are new popular ones that are realistic looking. By realistic, I mean that they are hard to tell from actual newborns. In fact, some are downright ugly like some real babies. These are called newborn dolls or sometimes realistic dolls.
Young girl dolls are dolls are generally 18 inches tall, but some types are a little smaller. They look like sweet young girls. The most popular are American Girl Dolls. They are great, but expensive. There are some brands that look very similar, and are less painful on the wallet. These dolls are My generation Dolls and Adora Dolls. All are great products that also come with their own accessories.
Fashion dolls are like Barbie dolls and other types that are cool, but nor realistic looking. They are mostly for accessorizing. If you go this route, make sure to get some extra outfits. That's what they are all about. By the way, many people are unhappy about these types of dolls because they tend to be over sexual in their appearance and thought to negatively affect girl's self worth.
I sure hope you find what your little girls wants. This article gives you a reference for your search. You can find these dolls at any store where toys are sold. Of course, they can also be found online.
